Monday 4/11 – LA Jazz Unlimited Orchestra at Catalina

Kenny Burrell and Dr. Bobby Rodriguez lead the LA Jazz Unlimited Orchestra at Catalina in Hollywood. Vocalist Cathy Segal-Garcia plays a tribute to the late Stephanie Haynes at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center in Leimert Park with pianist Karen Hammack. Dhara World Music celebrates a CD release at Blue Whale in Little Tokyo. The Steve Spiegl Big Band is at Typhoon in Santa Monica. Guitarist Molly Miller is at Perch in downtown L.A.. Guitarist Brent Canter is at Harlowe in West Hollywood. Monday jam sessions include John Ziegler and Jamie Kime at The Baked Potato in Studio City, Matthew Yeakley at The Falls Lounge in downtown L.A., Jeff Elliott at SOhO in Santa Barbara, and Jazz Eclectic at the Sofitel Beverly Hills Riviera 31.

Tuesday 4/12 – Rachel Eckroth at The Baked Potato

Vocalist Rachel Eckroth is at The Baked Potato in Studio City with Gary Novak on drums, Hagar Ben Ari on bass, Jeff Babko on keys, and Gabriel Johnson on trumpet. Percussionist Ronnie Gutierrez is at Mambo’s Cafe in Glendale. Violinist Ted Falcon and guitarist/vocalist Eduardo Souza are at Blue Whale in Little Tokyo. Trumpeter Brian Swartz is at Perch in downtown L.A.. Vocalist Barbara Morrison is at Pips on La Brea in West Hollywood. The Makers are at Seven Grand in downtown L.A.. Saxophonist Scott Martin’s Latin Soul Band is at Vibrato in Bel Air. Organist Organist Akiko Tsuruga is at Seven Degrees in Laguna Beach. Guitarist Greg Uhlmann is at Blue Whale in Little Tokyo. Pianist/vocalist Peter Smith is at the Langham Hotel Tap Room in Pasadena. Vocalist Teryn Re is at the Press Restaurant in Claremont. Vocalist Sherry Williams is at The Merc in Temecula. Drummer Allison Miller’s Boom Tic Boom is at Blue Whale in Little Tokyo. Cecilia Noel & The New Wild Clams are at The Baked Potato in Studio City. Saxophonist Rob Lockhart is at Vibrato in Bel Air. Saxophonist Louis Van Taylor is at the Aldabella Winery in Westlake Village. Saxophonist Kim Waters begins a three-night (Fri-Sun) run at Catalina in Hollywood. Pianist David Arnay is at the Parkway Grill in Pasadena.

Guitarist Dean Brown is at The Baked Potato in Studio City with Brandon Fields on saxes, Gerry Etkins on keys, Marvin “Smitty” Smith on drums, and Hadrien Feraud on bass. Brazilian vocalist Anne Walsh is at Alvas Showroom in San Pedro. Pianist Vijay Iyer and trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith are at Meng Concert Hall at Cal State Fullerton. Trumpeter Ron Stout is at Vibrato in Bel Air. Drummer Joey Heredia is at Squashed Grapes in Ventura. Drummer Paul Kreibich offers a program dedicated to the late Elvin Jones at Bar Fedora in downtown L.A.  Drummer Mark Z. Stevens’ trio is at Desert Rose in Los Feliz.  Saxophonist David Leech is at Pips on La Brea in West Hollywood. The Jimmy McConnell Big Band is at Maverick’s Flat in South L.A.. Vocalists Cat Conner, Calabria Foti and Gina Kronstadt share a bill at The E Spot Lounge in Studio City, backed by John Chiodini on guitar, Chris Colangelo on bass, and Joel Taylor on drums.  Drummer Aaron Serfaty celebrates a birthday at Blue Whale.  Guitarist Carl Verheyen is at Bogie’s in Westlake Village. Keyboardist Jay Smith is at The Baked Potato in Studio City.  Saxophonist Kim Waters is at Catalina in Hollywood.  Black Market Trust is at Alvas Showroom in San Pedro. Vocalist Spencer Day is at Spaghettini in Seal Beach.  Drummer Peter Buck is at the Hoson House in Tustin.  Drummer Chris Wabich plays a solo percussion afternoon show at Alvas Showroom in San Pedro.  The Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village hosts an afternoon jazz festival headlined by saxophonist Tom Scott.  Icelandic vocalist Anna Mjöll is at Vicky’s of Santa Fe in Palm Desert for an afternoon concert.  Sunday brunch choices include bassist/vocalist Katie Thiroux at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, vocalist Jesse Palter at Perch in downtown L.A., pianist Connie Han at Post & Beam in South L.A., vocalist Sharon Marie Cline at The Little Easy in downtown L.A., and saxophonist Cal Bennett at Pips on La Brea in West Hollywood.

Monday 4/18 – Sunnie Paxson All-Stars at The E Spot Lounge

Pianist Sunnie Paxson leads an all-feamle group at The E Spot Lounge in Studio City with Suzanne Morissette Cruz on drums, Robin Bramlett on bass, Sarah Bauza on trumpet, Clarice Cast on percussion, and Cynthia Calhoun on vocals. The Pepperdine Jazz Ensemble led by saxophonist Brian Scanlon is at Lindhurst Theatre in Malibu. The Mark Hix Big Band is at Typhoon in Santa Monica.
Guitarist/vocalist Richard Stekol and pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz are are Blue Whale in Little Tokyo. Guitarist Molly Miller is at Perch in downtown L.A.. Guitarist Brent Canter is at Harlowe in West Hollywood. Monday jam sessions include the Celebrity Jazz Jam featuring Jeff Goldblum at the Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, John Ziegler and Jamie Kime at The Baked Potato in Studio City, Matthew Yeakley at The Falls Lounge in downtown L.A., and Jazz Eclectic at the Sofitel Beverly Hills Riviera 31.

Tuesday 4/19 – Connie Han Quartet at Blue Whale

Pianist Connie Han is at Blue Whale with Walter Smith II on sax, Chris Colangelo on bass, and Bill Wysaske on drums.  Drummer Bernie Dresel’s BBB Big Band does a live recording at Joe’s Great American Bar & Grill in Burbank.  The Urban Renewal Project is at Bogie’s in Westlake Village.  Vocalist Donna Butler is at the West Lounge at the Hotel Angeleno in Brentwood.  The Young Artists Jazz Series presents bands from the Colburn School of Music at Catalina in Hollywood.  John Pisano’s guest for Guitar Night at Viva Cantina in Burbank is Tim May, backed by bassist Abraham Laboriel, Sr. and drummer Tim Pleasant.

Wednesday 4/20 – Translucent Ham Sandwich Band at Blue Whale

Drummer Evan Stone’s Translucent Ham Sandwich Band including bassist Steve Billman, keyboardist Haakon Graf, and guitarist Andy Waddell is at Blue Whale in Little Tokyo. “Conan” saxophonist Jerry Vivino is at The Baked Potato in Studio City. Pianist Max Haymer is at Catalina in Hollywood. Pianist Connie Han is at Osso in downtown L.A. The Gypsy Sound Revolution is at Vibrato in Bel Air.
